How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary texts?

From audience research my primary target audience is: male, 18-24, C2DE, left wing, North West, Yorkshire, Northern Scotland, London. They typically work in entertainment, advertising and marketing and also media and publishing.
secondary audience: the same demographic but female. They tend to have to same political views, are the same social grade and have similar interests and traits or personalities.
Uses and gratifications - why we consume media
Identify - can relate to the role model/actor
Educate - educates the audience
Entertain - entertain the audience
Social Interaction - can talk about the song/video with friends
Escapism - escape the aspects of real life as it is boring
My video applies to identification, entertain, social interaction and escapism
Identification - the viewer can identify with the role model/lead singer/actor
Entertain - the video entertains the viewer
Social Interaction - viewer can talk to friends about the song and music video
Escapism - the viewer can escape from real life whilst watching the video

Psychological needs - love and belonging: relates to the social interaction from uses and gratifications therefore my video helps meet this need from the theory
Representation:
Dyer's star image - the main star has two roles - he is not like that in his personal real life, therefore their image was created for the song and the products
Combination:
Link between the three products - there are many links between all three products. The ancillary texts use the same colours, fonts, images as each other therefore they relate to each other. There are lots of relations to the video from the digipak. The ventriloquist and the lead singers relation on the front cover, the ventriloquist with VHS overlay and old TV effect. The propaganda and war footage. The colours and font also relate to the feel of the video.
Synergy - my products use synergy to help promote each other. the fonts colours and images relate to each other, therefore promoting each other. The magazine advert promotes the album, which links to the music video.
Symbiosis - not in my products as they are all the same company. they help each other not promote a separate companies products
Convergence - all of my media texts can be previewed on a single device such as a computer or phone. the video can be watched, the magazine ad can be seen and the album can be played. All can be done on a singular device, therefore there is convergence between the products.
Distribution - due to the internet and the decrease in magazine and albums, the distribution of my products are mainly online.
Platforms - film (music video), music (song), artwork (digipak, magazine ad), social media (twitter) Lots of media platforms are used within my media products. Therefore the convergence and synergy between them is helping to promote the other products on different platforms.
