Production Log - 6/1/18

For the second shoot, we went to a church in Ilkley where we filmed some shots in and outside of the church, with the TV and the ventriloquist doll.

We took a variety of different shots, changing composition, shot types and shot lengths of the subjects. (being the TV and the ventriloquist) Some of the shots were successful and look good. But quite alot of the shots are dark, due to the lack of lighting in the church its self.

The focus on some of the shots are also not perfect due to the minimal lighting, and being unable to see the shot easily.

Some of my favourite shots from the shoot is the the ventriloquist in the chair close up and the ventriloquist in the stable display. I think the composition of the shots look really good.

Due to the church not looking like an original old style church on the outside, I think another location would need to be considered to get some good looking shots from the outside of a church.

Production Log - 1/1/18

I got some cut away shots for the music video whilst I was away at the east coast for the music video. This means that I can use the footage to breakup the videos scenes. The footage turned out good, as I got lots of different composition of the sea and the beach.

For the first shoot, the footage of the TV on the moor looked good, there were a variety of locations on the moors which meant that the TV could be placed in lots of unusual places.

My favorite shot of the shoot was where the TV was submerged within the water of a small puddle, within a marshy area. The TV was half submerged in the water and on an angle, which I thought that it looked really good and unusual.

This makes the scene even more unusual than it already is, with an old TV in the wild half covered in water. I also got some other shots with the TV on the moors, with the Cow and Calf, and in front of a wooded area.

Therefore lots of footage was taken from the moors and the best of the footage can be chosen to be used in the video. At each location on the moors, I tried a few different compositions therefore I can pick the best looking on from the scene. Also if the video needs to reference back to the same location, I can use a different composition of the same scene, making it different from the previous shot, therefore avoiding duplication of the same footage.

Production Log - 10/1/18

For the last part of the video, propaganda will need to be displayed on the TV. I created a composition for the footage, so I could add effects such as grain, and alter the brightness and contrast of the footage, to the stock footage. I then added the same effects to the ventriloquist footage in the church and cut between the two clips, as if the TV was glitching between the two sets of footage. I added a glitch effect to both of the clips so the footage looks like it is breaking whilst it is in the water.

To put the footage on the TV within the scene, I masks to remove the empty screen of the TV. I then inverted the mask so the rest of the background would be seen. I then duplicated the layer then un-inverted the mask on the new layer so the empty TV screen and the background would be separated. I then hid the TV screen, and places the footage in place rotating and scaling it to fit the screen. By putting the footage at the bottom of the composition, the punched hole in the background layer, means that the footage will show through. I then places the original TV screen back on top of the footage and scaled down the opacity, so the footage can be seen but the reflections of the environment and grey colour can be shown on top of the footage. This makes the footage look like it has been playing on the screen of the TV whilst filming.

To sort out the reflections of the footage that has been placed on the TV in the water below, I duplicated the footage, flipped to recreate a reflection, and then masked the footage to the size of the reflection. Lowering the opacity and flicking through the blending modes, I could make the reflection look as if the footage was on the TV at the time of filming.

I then added a camera to the footage made all of the layers 3D, and key-frames the point of interest and position of the camera to a good looking composition at the end of the zoom. I then converted the key-frames to easy-ease so the camera would move smoothly into the new composition like a zoom effect as if it was done on the camera.

To make the clip look much better I added vignetting to the edges of the footage and colour correction. This makes the clip look much better as it brings out the colours in the original footage. The vignetting gives the clip an old style feel with suits the genre and age of music.
